Wadi Shab is the wadi on every Oman postcard, and this private day makes the most of it. After pickup we drive the coastal highway south to the Bimmah Sinkhole, a limestone crater filled with turquoise water where you take a first swim. At Wadi Shab a small boat carries us across the mouth of the wadi and the walk begins: about 45 minutes past terraced plantations and boulder paths, with your guide pointing out the falaj channels and the best photo angles. The reward is a chain of emerald pools; swim through them and, if you are comfortable, through a narrow gap in the rock into a cave with a waterfall inside. Lunch at a local Omani restaurant follows, then we relax at Fins white beach with tea, coffee and dates before an easy drive back to Muscat.
The standard private vehicle is ideal for up to four or five adults; groups of six or more travel in our private minibus.
