A licensed Omani guide collects you in a private, air-conditioned sedan (or a 4WD on request) and begins at the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, an architectural masterpiece opened in 2001, where you learn the stories behind its chandelier and hand-knotted carpet. We continue to the Royal Opera House Muscat, pause at Qurum Beach, then wander the frankincense-scented lanes of Mutrah Souq. At Bait Al Zubair Museum you meet Oman's heritage up close before a photo stop in Old Muscat overlooking Al Alam Palace and the Portuguese forts of Mirani and Jalali. The tour ends with authentic Omani cuisine at Bait Al Luban, the restaurant locals recommend to their guests.
On Fridays the mosque is closed to visitors; we replace it with the Muscat viewpoint and adjust the route. Choose the 15:00 start if you prefer an evening city tour.
